On Tuesday, September 1, 2026, at 6:00 PM, the City will host a public forum at the Frankfort High School Auditorium (534 11th Street) to discuss the proposed renewal of the IRONMAN Host Venue Agreement. This is the agreement that keeps IRONMAN 70.3 Michigan racing through Frankfort each fall, and it's up for renewal — which means it's up for public discussion first.
A Quick Recap: What Is the Host Venue Agreement?
Every year IRONMAN 70.3 Michigan comes to town it’s because of an agreement between the City of Frankfort and IRONMAN that sets the terms for hosting the race here — road closures, city services, logistics, and more. That agreement is due for renewal, and the City wants to hear directly from residents and business owners before making a decision. That's what the September 1st forum is for.
IRONMAN, By the Numbers
Whatever you think about race day traffic, it's worth looking at what IRONMAN actually brings to Frankfort. Here's what the data from the 2025 and 2026 races shows so far:
2,500+ athletes are racing in 2026, up from 1,800+ in 2025
62.38% of 2026 athletes are from out of state, with another 6.05% coming from outside the U.S. entirely
500+ athletes have raced in Frankfort before, and roughly 350 are racing here in both 2025 and 2026
Athletes reported a 93.9% satisfaction rate with the Frankfort course - It’s voted the #1 course in North America!
