A gloomy day in Frankfort doesn’t have to be so gloomy!

Betsie Bay Frankfort

Have clouds rolled in and left a brisk chill in the air?

Maybe even some precipitation?

This does not mean the day has gone to waste! I’m sure we all prefer sunny and warm days where we can go to the beach, especially in Frankfort. But a gloomy day does not mean it’s going to be a bad day; in fact, these are some of my favorite days in Frankfort, and let me explain why.

Obviously, any day in northern Michigan allows for great photography opportunities, whether it’s on a hiking trail or beautiful sunsets over Lake Michigan. When the weather is gloomy it allows for some pretty cool shots. When the water gets rough near the lighthouse, you can get some very cool videos or photos of the scenery. My personal favorite is heading to the marina on Betsie Lake near the library and getting shots of the boats in the darker setting.

When the sun is taking a break, this is a great chance to check out some of Frankfort's cozy coffee shops and grab a warm drink. Bella’s Café and Perks of Frankfort are two great places to stop in for a drink and relax as you enjoy their atmospheres. After enjoying your drink, you may want to take this opportunity to check out Frankfort’s library; it has great views of Betsie Lake and very welcoming staff. This is also a good chance to learn about some of the events Frankfort has planned or that the library has planned.

Another great option is checking out The Bookstore; they have plenty of options to read. Some of my favorites are the books they have about Great Lakes shipwrecks, nature in northern Michigan, and Great Lakes ghost stories. They also sell some cool art prints that are great for home decor if you want to take a little piece of Frankfort back home with you.

While you’re downtown, this is a great opportunity to check out some of the shops on Main Street while the weather is a little cooler as you walk. Frankfort offers a variety of different shops; there is certainly one for everyone to find something they enjoy.

After your walk, you might get a little hungry. Thankfully on Main Street you’ll be surrounded by a plethora of delicious restaurants to choose from. A variety of different cuisines are available in Frankfort, guaranteeing that you’ll find something delicious for dinner.

Trust me, when I go downstate, I still think of the delicious food in Frankfort.

There are many ways to make a gloomy day not feel so gloomy.

Frankfort has a certain charm to it that can make every day a good day, even the darker ones.
